We advise you on how to prepare for the choice of the cabin for your bathroom.

What shower cabin to choose? What to pay attention to when choosing?

Size of the shower cabin

Currently, there is a really wide range of shower cabins available on the market - from simple and classic cabins, free-standing cabins, corner cabins, cabins with deep trays, to those low ones that can also be used without problem by elderly people. One of the key issues that we must take into account when asking "what shower cabin" is the issue of... space in the bathroom where it will be installed. This not only concerns matching the cabin to the size of our bathroom but also whether we will choose corner cabins, recess cabins, or wall-mounted cabins. Moreover, when furnishing the room, it is worth focusing on ensuring that the shower cabin fits the décor of the bathroom.

Shower cabins are most often available with a base size of 90x90 cm - this size is considered the most optimal for a shower cabin. For a small bathroom, it is better to choose slightly smaller base dimensions, such as 80x80 cm - the cabin is a bit smaller but still comfortable to use. When choosing the size of the shower cabin with a tray, special attention must be paid to whether it will be adequately matched to the water drain. Furthermore, if there is no tray included with the shower cabin, it is necessary to match the height of the cabin walls to the depth of the tray.

Modern solution, i.e., walk-in cabin

The size of the shower cabin matters not only in the case of cabins with a tray - an increasingly popular solution is the walk-in shower. By opting for this solution, we can easily match the cabin to the space in our bathroom, even if it has non-standard dimensions. Walk-in shower walls available in the Mexen offer are available in various dimensions, from 50 to even 140 cm in width. We avoid the necessity of matching specific shower cabins - this solution is not only convenient but also extremely aesthetic and fits perfectly in modern bathroom arrangements.

Shower cabins: types

There are currently various types of shower cabins available on the market, allowing us to perfectly match them to our bathroom. We have many different models to choose from - if you're wondering which shower cabin to choose, start by considering the type.

  • corner shower cabin: this is the most popular model that fits perfectly in a small bathroom. In this case, the cabin adheres to two walls of the bathroom - this type of cabin is easy to install, and moreover, it is not difficult to keep it clean. This model comes in both square and rectangular versions. Another popular variation of this model is the semi-circular cabin.

  • wall-mounted shower cabin: this type of shower cabin offers greater arrangement possibilities, as it only adheres to one wall of the bathroom. Wall-mounted shower cabins are more suitable for larger bathrooms.

  • recess shower cabin: this is another popular model that can often be found in homes. As the name suggests, the shower is placed in a recess, and this type of cabin is equipped only with doors.

  • walk-in shower cabin: this is a completely different solution than a shower cabin with a tray. In this case, shower walls are installed that separate the bathing area from the rest of the bathroom. There are no cabin doors here - the entrance to the shower is completely opened, which works great for elderly people, as there is no fear of accidental falls, which can happen with trays, especially high ones.

Which shower cabin to choose: material

The wide range of shower cabins provides the opportunity for perfect fitting of the cabin to one’s needs. We've already looked at the cabin models, now let's look at the material from which a shower cabin can be made.

  • glass cabins: these are made of tempered glass, which is characterized by high durability (it is suitable for homes with children or elderly people - in case of an accident, the glass breaks into rounded fragments that do not cause injury). Moreover, tempered glass shower cabins are of really high quality and will serve us for many years. Often, glass cabins are coated with a special layer that prevents limescale build-up, making it much easier to keep such a cabin clean.

  • plastic cabins: these cabins are characterized by lower prices, but their disadvantage is significantly less durability. This type of cabin will thus serve for a shorter time, but let us remember that its lifespan can still be very long - just take care of it properly.

Choosing a shower cabin. Does the type of doors in the shower cabin matter?

Shower cabins differ not only in size, type, and material - an extremely important element of each cabin is the doors. Available are cabins with sliding, hinged, and folding doors. The choice of these doors is not only based on convenience but also on the orientation of the shower and the size of the bathroom. What types of doors are available in cabins?

  • hinged doors: as the name suggests, this is the standard type of door in a cabin - they usually open outwards, which is why this solution is more suitable for larger bathrooms.

  • sliding doors: the cabin doors are placed on special tracks or rollers. This choice is great for smaller bathrooms.

  • folding doors: this is a less common solution, the doors fold here like an accordion. This is a good solution for small bathrooms where space is limited - however, it is worth remembering that this type of door is not as watertight as others.

  • walk-in: in this system, doors are completely eliminated - only special shower walls are used, the structure of which prevents water from spilling out of the shower.

As you can see, the choice of a shower cabin is not an easy task at all - however, we hope that with our guide, we have resolved all doubts!
