Wall-mounted or concealed faucet?

To buy or not to buy, that is the question! Everyone planning to replace the faucet in the bathroom must confront this issue. And since the most important things are invisible to the eye, perhaps it’s better to buy and install a concealed faucet?! But on the other hand, it's a shame to damage the tiles. After all, it might be useful for several more years. So let's not buy! We are installing a wall-mounted faucet. Hmm..., are we sure we're making the right decision? Maybe a concealed faucet instead? It’s best to familiarize yourself with both options.

Wall-mounted sink faucets — a simple installation method

Wall-mounted faucets belong to the type of fittings we most commonly encounter in classic interiors, or in bathrooms designed several years ago. The key element distinguishing wall-mounted faucets is how they are installed. Unlike concealed faucets, they are fully mounted on a surface that is already finished. Their installation is simple and does not require significant interference with the wall structure. In the event of a malfunction or the need to replace a damaged component, the user has easy access to the entire mechanism. A condition for installing a wall-mounted faucet above a sink is that there is access to the home plumbing installation. The hot and cold water supply pipes must come out of the wall at the appropriate height above the sink.

What advantages do wall-mounted faucets have?

Although concealed systems have recently been in the spotlight, wall-mounted faucets have not lost their relevance and are still very much preferred. Their advantages include simplicity and a significantly lower price compared to concealed faucets. We cannot overlook the hygienic aspect either. Access to all components facilitates maintenance and keeping them clean. Additionally, a faucet mounted to the wall does not take up space on the sink, allowing for greater freedom during hygiene activities. It is also worth emphasizing the original design of the products. This type of faucet is often enhanced with stylish knobs for regulating water temperature and pressure, complemented by a spout designed in the same style. Unique shapes and varied colors make sink faucets visually striking and emphasize the original interior design.

What characterizes modern concealed faucets?

Concealed faucets require grooves to be carved into the wall, in which all system elements and water supply pipes will be hidden. The necessity of breaking the wall means that the installation of such faucets is only possible in newly built bathrooms or during major renovations. An optimal and less invasive solution may be to hide the faucet and all other elements under a drywall sheet mounted on a steel frame. It is worth considering such a solution, especially when we adhere to the principle of minimalism and simultaneously have ample bathroom space. By going in this direction and choosing concealed sink faucets, we can also avoid costly and labor-intensive renovations and tile replacements.

How does a sink faucet work?

In concealed faucets, only the spouts and control elements: handles, knobs, and buttons are visible externally. These parts are offered in various shapes and designs. In both concealed and wall-mounted systems, we can choose between single-handle or double-handle faucets. In the former, a single lever regulates both the temperature and the flow intensity of the water. Double-handle faucets are equipped with two levers (or joysticks) or two knobs — one for hot water and the other for cold water. The same applies to modern thermostatic faucets. One knob sets the water temperature, while the other regulates the water flow.

What should sink faucets be made of?

Sink faucets must be made from corrosion-resistant materials, as each component is exposed to constant contact with water. Modern faucets are made from copper or high-quality steel, which is then coated with a chrome finish. Chrome has anti-corrosive properties and is scratch-resistant, allowing for safe and durable use of bathroom fittings. When choosing a sink faucet, we must be aware that chrome is just the outer coating of the body. Before deciding to purchase, check if the inside of the faucet is smooth and the connections are made carefully. Only in such cases will the water flow smoothly, and the sink faucet will serve you for a long time. The heart of the faucet is the cartridge, which should be made from durable ceramic. High-quality cartridges withstand even a million cycles of opening and closing the water flow. In an effort to protect the environment, responsible manufacturers equip their products with aerators, allowing for the aeration of the water stream, which significantly reduces its consumption.
