Bidet - a mandatory element of bathroom equipment in Eastern countries, is increasingly appearing in Polish bathrooms as well. It is a practical device that facilitates personal hygiene and enhances the bathroom's standard. Manufacturers offer standing and wall-mounted bidets. Which model should you choose? How to select the appropriate faucet? Where to install the device to ensure convenient access and comfort during use?
Standing or Wall-Mounted Bidet?
Bidets, toilet bowls, sinks, and other sanitary equipment in the bathroom should maintain stylistic coherence. Therefore, when choosing a wall-mounted toilet bowl, one should also opt for a wall-mounted bidet, and vice versa. From a functional perspective, wall-mounted models are more advantageous. Primarily, access to them and usage are more comfortable. They also make it easier to keep the bathroom clean, as they allow reaching every corner of the floor. Additionally, they provide a sense of greater space, which is especially important in small rooms.
Wall-mounted bidets are installed on a full wall or a special concealed frame designed for heavy loads. This solution is not only safe but also elegant, enhancing the aesthetic value of the bathroom. Unfortunately, we must account for somewhat higher installation costs than with standing bidets. When purchasing a bidet, it is worth checking whether the bidet faucet, siphon, and all necessary accessories are included. If not, depending on the design of the bidet, it may be necessary to purchase the appropriate mounting elements separately. It is beneficial for the product to come with an installation manual that shows step by step how to secure the bidet to the wall or floor.
Installing a Bidet
Installing a bidet requires prior water supply and sewage connection. Water is connected to the already mounted bidet faucet. Depending on the type of device, we can distinguish two methods of installation.
Installing a Wall-Mounted Bidet
In the case of installing a wall-mounted bidet, we use a concealed frame attached to the wall. Frames designed for bidets feature an adjustable crossbar with mounting screws. With its help, we can conveniently adjust the height of the bidet bowl to match the height of the toilet bowl. A wall-mounted bidet can also be directly affixed to the wall. However, this requires cutting channels in the wall for plumbing and sewage connections, so this solution cannot be applied to structural walls.
Installing a Freestanding Bidet
A freestanding bidet should be positioned as close to the wall as possible and stabilized properly. Next, the faucet should be attached to the ceramic surface, and flexible hoses should be used to connect water to it. A good-quality bidet faucet includes flexible connection hoses, an automatic plug, and a aerator. After installing the faucet, it's time to connect the siphon, appropriately matched to the type of bidet. The siphon should be placed in the bottom opening of the bowl and connected to the sewage opening. Finally, using mounting screws, the stabilized bidet should be securely fastened to the wall and floor.
Why Install a Bidet Near the Toilet Bowl?
Planning the installation of a bidet should start at the stage of designing the bathroom. This will allow for a thoughtful location of the device and the provision of water-supply and sewage connections. The toilet bowl and the bidet should be located next to each other and at the same height. This consideration is not only for aesthetic reasons but primarily for user comfort. To ensure that the toilet and bidet are at the same height, it is best to choose models from the same manufacturer, as they have mounting screws at the same level. It is also important to maintain a proper distance from the side wall and between the devices to provide comfortable maneuvering space from all sides.
Due to the way a bidet is used - you sit on it facing or away from the faucet - the distance from the toilet bowl to the bidet installation should be no less than 30 cm. It is recommended that the distance from the front of this sanitary ware to other fixtures in the bathroom be around 60 cm. The appropriate installation height of the bidet is also crucial. It is usually installed 40 cm from the floor. If the device is intended for people with mobility impairments, all parameters should be appropriately increased.
The choice of the right location for the bidet, maintaining the required distances from walls and other bathroom fixtures, proper installation of the bidet bowl, matching siphon, and appropriately selected faucet ensures long-term trouble-free use of the device.
