Types of Shower Rods

Is your bathroom lacking space? Don't you want to only place a shower cabin in it, but you can't imagine living without a quick shower? Or perhaps you want to use the shower nook without installing a shower tray? A great solution in this case is a shower rod. What is a shower rod? What types of shower rods are there? How do individual models differ from each other? Will a shower curtain be essential for you?

Shower Rods - What Does This Term Mean?

Shower rods are an essential element in a bathroom where the shower is taken in a bathtub. They are an excellent solution for both people with small bathrooms as well as those who do not want to invest in an expensive shower cabin. A shower rod is actually a pipe mounted to the wall, on which shower curtains can be hung.

Shower rods are used to hang shower curtains. They protect the bathroom from splashes during showering. Furthermore, a shower rod and shower curtain are definitely cheaper than a glass cabin. Installing a rod and shower curtain is also easier than installing a shower tray and cabin.

Curved, Straight, and Corner Rods - A Few Words about Types of Shower Rods

In the market, in building supply stores, but also (and perhaps mainly) in the internet offer of the Mexen store, you will find various types of shower rods. They are categorized among others based on their shape. Therefore, we distinguish:

  • Straight rods - made from one straight pipe. They work great for bathtubs and open shower trays on one side;

  • Curved rods - their construction is also made from one pipe, but it is bent. A curved rod fits perfectly for asymmetrical bathtubs and semicircular shower trays;

  • Corner rods - such shower rods consist of several pipes, which are mounted between the walls using brackets. Corner rods are most often used when the shower or bathtub is exposed on three sides.

Pressure Mounted or Screw Mounted - Different Installation Methods

We already know that shower rods used for hanging shower curtains differ from each other based on their shape. However, shower rods can also be divided based on how they are mounted to the wall. In this case, shower rods are divided into:

  • Pressure rods - ideal for a small bathroom where the bathtub or shower is exposed on one side. They can also be installed in a shower nook. A pressure rod is very light and has the ability to adjust its length. To install it, no tools are needed. It is mounted between two parallel walls. One side of the rod is rested against a wall, its length is adjusted, and finally the other part of the rod rests against the opposite wall;

  • Screw-mounted shower rods - this installation method requires interfering with the ceiling. Professional tools will be needed for this setup. It is important to remember that the quality of the rod's mounting is crucial, as it is supposed to hold the weight of the shower curtain. This solution works great in a high bathroom, where a pressure rod would look unattractive.

Which Shower Rod to Choose?

The choice of both a shower rod and a shower curtain is a personal matter. Which model will work better depends on many factors. However, before you decide on a specific solution aimed at covering the cabin in your bathroom, consider the method of mounting the rod. If you do not plan a complete bathroom renovation, a better option may be to hang the curtain on a pressure rod.

However, if you plan a bathroom renovation, you can choose a different method of rod installation. Just remember to choose the right length of the curtain. The right size will minimize any traces and wet spots left on the bathroom floor.
