How to choose a good kitchen faucet?

Although more and more people have a dishwasher in their homes, the traditional sink remains an essential element in the kitchen: quick rinsing of dishes, food products, or even washing kitchen items. A sink is a mandatory part of every kitchen, and along with it: a well-chosen kitchen faucet. This element of fixtures must be a thoughtful choice - it should not only serve for many years but also perform well for our needs. Kitchen faucets are available in an incredibly wide range of models, finishes, and styles: here are some tips on how to choose a kitchen faucet!

Types of kitchen faucets

The current market offer of various models may be overwhelming: it could seem that choosing a faucet is an easy task, but it is not that simple! Much depends on the size of our kitchen, the sink itself, as well as the functions that the faucet must perform. When it comes to the type of installation, we differentiate between two types of faucets:

  • "standalone faucets": these are mounted in the sink opening or directly in the countertop. This is the most commonly encountered model - its installation is not difficult, and flexible connections for hot and cold water are connected under the sink or countertop. Moreover, the size of the faucet and openings is standardized, so there are no minor problems when replacing the faucet with a new one.
  • "wall-mounted faucets": this type is directly mounted to the hot and cold water connections coming from the wall. The popularity of this solution decreases year by year, and mainly people who replace fixtures without a complete overhaul of the entire installation choose it.

Another distinction of faucets is the handles: there are single and dual handle faucets. In the case of a single handle kitchen faucet (as the name suggests), one handle regulates both the temperature of the water and the intensity of the flow. This type of faucet can be operated with one hand, making it a much more convenient solution than a dual handle faucet. In a dual handle faucet, we have two knobs - for hot and cold water, each regulating the intensity of the water flow. This type of faucet is used less and less - most of us opt for convenient solutions.

What faucet to choose - remember about practicality!

Are you wondering which kitchen faucet to choose? Remember that in this case, practicality is extremely important: the faucet in the kitchen is used very often - for washing dishes, food products, larger items (like big baking trays or ovenproof dishes). It is also often here that we fill bowls or buckets - a great solution is a kitchen faucet with a pull-out spray! This type of faucet is equipped with a retractable hose, usually between 1 and 1.5 meters long. This allows us to wash larger items like big pans, pots or baking trays even in a single-basin sink - the spray allows us to control the water flow 360 degrees, which is especially useful in a small kitchen. Additionally, such sprays allow for quick cleaning of hard-to-reach places and make it easier to fill a bucket or bowl.

Kitchen faucet: summary

When choosing a faucet for your kitchen, we must pay attention to several important aspects:

  • functionality (adjustable water flow, ease of use, additional aerator that makes it more aerated),
  • quality of execution (appropriate components, ceramic head),
  • appearance (classic silver faucets, or black or chrome ones, for modern interiors).

The choice of a kitchen faucet can be quite a challenge - however, we hope that our guide has resolved your doubts!
