Even at the planning stage of building a house, you should consider which heating system will be best for this specific investment. It is not worth being influenced by solutions that friends or neighbors have, because the heating must be tailored to the specific building and the needs of the particular family. The available types of heating options also depend on the location of the building - for example, a single-family home cannot always be connected to a city heat plant.
Heating for Houses and Apartments - Choice of Solutions
The type of heating that can be applied does not always depend solely on the owner's idea. Possible ways to provide warmth in a building depend on its type - a single-family home is heated differently than an apartment.
Detached House
The method of heating a house can be divided into two types: radiators and so-called underfloor heating (or other surface heating). This is an extremely important issue, because potential replacement of radiators or underfloor heating means invasive and disruptive renovation of the entire house. The second, very important issue is the choice of fuel and boiler. Here, you must answer the question of whether to use gas heating or perhaps electric heating? The following options are available:
- natural gas - is one of the most convenient heating methods. Its advantage is the very convenient regulation of room temperature and practically no problems with boiler operation. The downside of natural gas is the high costs, so it is currently not the cheapest method.
- Heat pump - is a much more advantageous and equally comfortable method of heating rooms. Good quality ground source heat pumps are extremely efficient, significantly reducing operating costs.
- Solid fuel boilers, among which the most popular are currently feeders powered by pellets or eco-coal. Pellet is a renewable and ecological fuel, and the advantage of using this resource is the attractive cost of this fuel. In this case, a low price for boilers is also encouraging. The downside may be the need to allocate a space of certain dimensions, which must accommodate both the boiler and the fuel.
Apartments in Buildings
In the case of apartments in a block, the most commonly encountered installation is the central heating system. This type of heating involves the installation of a network of pipes connected to radiators that circulate hot water. In some areas, gas heating may be available, which differs in the type of fuel supplied to the apartment from which energy is obtained. Instead of hot water, natural gas is supplied, which goes to a special tank. It is then transferred to the boiler, where the water is heated through combustion and then distributed to the radiators in individual apartments. Another way to provide warmth to an apartment is a system that uses electric energy. This can include electric radiators or electric underfloor heating. However, this solution is not without its drawbacks. The heating system based on electric power is not expensive; however, the operating costs are quite high.
What sources of heat should you choose for an apartment? The most desirable solutions are heating from the municipal network - it is a reliable and inexpensive heating system. If you do not have this option, it is worth considering a modern gas installation, which has a relatively friendly price and is universal. If you are interested in electric methods of heating your home, one of the best solutions is underfloor mats, which, although their installation is quite costly, provide extremely comfortable usage.
Methods of Electric Heating for Homes - Overview of Available Solutions
Electric heating can take various forms. Among them, there are systems that serve as primary and supplementary heating.
- Local heating. This method requires the use of heaters. In the case of accumulation heating, there will be accumulator stoves, and in the case of convection heating – convectors.
- Surface heating. The most known way of this type of heating is underfloor heating, with hidden systems in walls or ceilings being used less frequently.
- Other types of electric heaters. Among such electrically powered products are frequently used towel radiators found in bathrooms, as well as oil devices or radiant panels. It is also worth mentioning that small and portable fan heaters, called heaters, provide quick heating of rooms. They are most often used in specific rooms to ensure they are warmer than other areas of the house.
