Sink Size - What to Choose?

The market offers a very large selection of sink models, colors, and sizes. You can choose from sinks made from a variety of materials in different shapes. However, one of the most important features to consider when purchasing a new sink for your kitchen is its size. It is dependent on both the amount of space in the kitchen and the width of the cabinet or countertop where you want to install it. The method of mounting the sink is also important, as larger sinks may be heavier and require a more solid base.

Modern Single-Bowl Sinks

The kitchen must be arranged primarily to be functional, and this also applies to the sink, which is an essential element of its equipment. Even if a dishwasher has reigned in your kitchen for years, you surely understand that a sink is always useful. Most people decide to buy a single-bowl sink, which are the most commonly available sinks on the market. It will come in handy, even if you have a dishwasher that you use daily.

This is the ideal solution for a small kitchen, and you can easily find models with a width of less than 50 cm, allowing you to place the sink on even a small cabinet or narrow countertop. Such a sink size allows for convenient washing of dishes and pots. If you want to save even more space in the kitchen, you can choose a small corner sink, which will work not only in small kitchens but also in kitchenettes.

How to Choose a Sink for the Kitchen - Size Matters

If you want to choose the right sink size for your kitchen, you need to consider the following factors:

  • size of the kitchen or kitchenette,

  • frequency of using the sink,

  • the budget allocated for the sink purchase,

  • the method of mounting the sink.

People with a limited budget typically choose a single-bowl stainless steel sink. This is a solid and reasonably priced solution. If you cook a lot and, consequently, often wash items needed for meal preparation in the sink, decide on a large sink with two bowls. When it comes to sink sizes, they should match the size of the kitchen. An overly large sink in a micro kitchen will make it difficult to use comfortably, while a sink that is too small will "get lost" in a spacious kitchen.

Granite Sink or Another?

If you don’t know which type of sink to choose, be sure to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the various models. Currently, the most popular are medium-sized sinks made of granite with a functional drainer. A properly selected sink facilitates the organization of the washing area, and placing the drainer on its left or right side allows for an expanded work area. You can place dirty dishes and pots waiting to be washed on it. A granite sink is resistant to mechanical damage and high temperatures, and it is also difficult to scratch.

Stainless steel sinks are cheaper than granite ones, but they are available in a limited color range. We have both double-bowl and single-bowl sinks, as well as one-and-a-half bowl sinks. Their maintenance, like that of granite sinks, does not require special treatments. However, it is good to remember to dry the sink after completing each task. Regardless of whether we choose granite sinks, ceramic sinks, or stainless steel sinks, the size of the sink should be adjusted to comfortably wash the dishes.

The Perfect Sink Does Not Exist

Choosing a sink is an important decision because it is typically purchased for a long time. Therefore, it’s worth paying attention to both the practical values and its functionality. Regardless of whether you need a single or double bowl sink, you must take the available space into account. In a kitchenette, under-mounted sinks work perfectly, while in a larger kitchen, you can opt for sinks integrated into the countertop or surface-mounted sinks that are integrated with a piece of the countertop. If you want a sink that meets your expectations, remember that its shape, color, and size are all important considerations.
