At what height should a wall-mounted toilet frame be installed?

A functional bathroom should be equipped with all necessary sanitary fixtures, installed according to ergonomic principles. In order for the toilet bowl to provide comfort and convenience during use, it should be located in the right place and at an expected height. This is determined by the choice of the appropriate wall-mounted frame and its correct installation. We advise on the best height to install a wall-mounted toilet frame.

Height of the toilet bowl installation - with a wink?

Let’s start unconventionally... The toilet is a place where most of us like to sit for a while, although not everyone has the courage to admit it. Here we can enjoy a moment of peace, especially if the family is large and the apartment is not particularly spacious. Sitting on the toilet, we can focus on reading a book or a newspaper, browsing websites on the latest smartphone, checking what's new with friends on Facebook or even philosophizing about the meaning of life. For that, we need comfort, so our legs don’t go numb and our back doesn’t hurt. Such comfort can be provided by a toilet bowl installed at the right height. After all, isn’t that what life is all about, making things easier?

And seriously... about the height of the toilet installation

But seriously... The anatomical structure of the human body requires adopting the right position while addressing physiological needs. Installing the toilet bowl at the correct height significantly facilitates this activity and improves user comfort. From a medical point of view, this is particularly important for people suffering from chronic constipation. Additionally, the hygiene aspect is also important. A wall-mounted bowl lacks a pedestal, which prevents the accumulation of germs and facilitates maintaining cleanliness in the bathroom, while the absence of visible installation elements greatly enhances its aesthetics.

How to choose the right wall-mounted frame?

Undoubtedly, the dimensions and installation method of frames are their advantages. Because we install them in the wall, they take up little space. Nevertheless, when deciding to purchase such a frame, it’s important to know its dimensions and installation method to adequately arrange the bathroom space. Toilet frames are offered in three versions: for heavy, light, and freestanding installations. The first ones have a slightly heavier construction since they are mounted in a masonry wall and the entire load is transferred to it. Lightweight frames are designed for installation in drywall and do not require masonry. Meanwhile, freestanding frames can be mounted directly to the concrete floor, thanks to their reinforced frame and profiles with increased cross-section.

On the dimensions of frames - a few words...

The dimensions of the frame also play an important role in selecting the appropriate one. The standard width of the structural frames ranges from 35 to 50 cm, while the length of the structure has a slightly larger range. Manufacturers offer low-build wall-mounted sets, with a frame length of 80 cm or 90 cm, and high sets, where the frame measures from 110 to 130 cm. Almost all wall-mounted frames have height adjustment capabilities, allowing for the structure to be adapted to the existing space and placed at the desired height. A high frame should be marked at 1 m from the floor.

The installation of low wall-mounted structures works perfectly in places where a standard frame height of 110 - 130 cm won't fit. Most often, such spaces are attics, walls under windows, or low partition walls separating the bathing area from the part of the bathroom containing the toilet. With a low frame, it is possible to install the flush button from above, in the casing made of drywall, which has the necessary cut-outs. Additionally, the boards conceal pipes, screws, and all unattractive installation elements.

At what height is it best to install the toilet bowl?

Before we start the installation, we should familiarize ourselves with the dimensions of all installed components so that the wall-mounted bowl is at the required height. It is recommended that the distance from the floor to the top edge of the ceramic should be 40 - 50 cm. Height adjustment during installation is made possible by the wall-mounted frame to which the toilet bowl is attached. The deciding factor should be the height of the people using the toilet, since this determines the comfort of use. If children or disabled individuals are to use the toilet, it is advisable to choose a different, optimal height.

Space, aesthetics, comfort in the bathroom

With a bowl mounted at a height of about 40 cm from the floor, the connection should be at a height of 210-230 cm. Once the frame is pushed against the wall, its height can be adjusted by extending the mounting legs. It is also important to ensure adequate space for connecting the wastewater.

To comfortably use sanitary devices, they should be installed at a suitable distance from the wall and leave free space around them:

  • 20 cm from the perpendicular wall,
  • 20 cm clearance between the toilet and other fixtures, except for the bidet, for which the distance should be 30 cm,
  • unoccupied area in front of the toilet: 60-80 cm
  • the top edge of the ceramic bowl about 40 cm from the floor.
