Is it Worth Changing Toilet Brushes?

The decoration of our bathroom, the arrangement of bathroom fixtures and furniture is individually tailored to our needs so that the comfort of use is as high as possible. This applies to the rest of the bathroom equipment, which includes towels and toilet brushes. Below, we will explain how often and why we should change our toilet brush. We will also provide tips on what to pay special attention to when purchasing a new toilet cleaning brush.

Why is Changing the Toilet Brush So Important?

Each of us wants our home, especially the bathroom, to shine with cleanliness. However, we need the right accessories for that. A toilet brush is an accessory that facilitates cleaning the toilet. However, the cleanliness of our toilet bowl is not only indicated by its pristine whiteness. It may turn out that, contrary to appearances, the brush we used to clean the toilet bowl did not remove bacteria and germs from it at all. In most cases, the cause of this is not the improper use of the toilet brush but its prolonged use. The brush should actually leave our toilet after about six months.

Using a toilet cleaning brush for longer than the aforementioned six months is also not advisable due to its frequent mechanical damage. Such damages occur not only when we clean the toilet bowl but also when the toilet brush is in the holder. We often have water in it, and the bristles of the toilet brush are not always highly resistant to the harmful effects of moisture. The type of bristle on the toilet brush also affects its quality, as well as whether cleaning our toilet with it will be effective.

Which Toilet Brush Should We Choose?

We already know that we need to change the toilet brush. It may not be as often as toilet paper, since we always try to have spare rolls at home. We do not need to have a spare toilet brush, but we should remember about regular replacements; otherwise, our toilet will still be full of germs and bacteria. So, which toilet brush will be the best choice? This is a very individual matter, as when choosing a toilet brush, we need to pay attention to many aspects. For example, our products available in the Mexen store differ from each other in many ways. We can choose a toilet brush with synthetic or silicone bristles. Also, the appearance of the toilet brush holder can be varied. The toilet brush holder can either create a uniform combination with the brush handle or resemble the rest of the ceramics in our bathroom. It's a matter of aesthetics and our sense of style.

The brush handle and its holder are not the only elements that characterize these products. The way they are mounted is also important. We can choose a standalone brush or a wall-mounted one. The latter can be easily mounted in our bathroom on brackets or on a special adhesive holder. A wall-mounted toilet brush holder will also help us protect our floor from splashes. This is an extremely practical way to place the brush, both for a large and a small bathroom. Often, the bathroom floor is cluttered with other accessories. In such a place, there is no chance to place a stand-alone holder next to the toilet bowl. That is when wall-mounted brushes come in handy.

Brush Bristles - What Will Be the Best?

Cleaning the toilet bowl largely depends on the type of bristles used to make our toilet brush. Most of them are products with synthetic bristles; however, we can also find brushes on the market equipped with bristles made of silicone. The latter has a high resistance to the harmful effects of moisture.

Some toilet brushes with synthetic bristles are characterized by having two types of bristles in one product. The first type is soft and designed for rinsing the toilet bowl and maintaining its cleanliness on an ongoing basis. The second, thicker synthetic bristle is designed to help us remove stronger stains from our toilet.

However, the material from which the cleaning element of the toilet brush is made is not everything. The shape of the brush is also important. On the market, we can find several shapes. We can thus choose a round brush, a semi-circular brush, or one that is appropriately profiled. Each of these bathroom products has different cleaning capabilities for the toilet. Therefore, which brush we choose for our bathroom depends on our individual needs. We should choose a profiled brush in case of hard-to-reach spots in our toilet bowl. Again, a round or semi-circular brush can clean almost any toilet. These are the most popular products that we can find in almost every Polish bathroom.

Brush Handle and Holder - Does It Matter?

When choosing a toilet brush, let's also pay attention to its handle. An important matter is primarily the material from which it is made. We can choose brushes with handles made of:

  • ceramics,
  • stainless steel,
  • plastic,
  • natural materials.

A toilet brush with a plastic handle is the cheapest but also the least durable option. Therefore, products with handles made of stainless steel or ceramics will be a better choice. They are characterized primarily by high durability. A brush with a handle made of natural materials, for example, bamboo, is properly protected against moisture. Additionally, it is hard, making it easier to clean the toilet, and it is also durable. Even with long-term and intensive use, they cannot destroy the handle. Another matter is that a brush made of natural materials is an eco-friendly product. Therefore, by choosing such a toilet brush, we take care of our planet.

Toilet paper in our bathroom does not need to match its color scheme. However, an accessory like a toilet brush should be matched to the interior in which it is located. Therefore, we have many options both in terms of colors and materials. However, it is best if our toilet brush has a holder made of materials resistant not only to mechanical damage but also to the action of cleaning agents. We clean the inside of the toilet with the toilet brush, and for this, we use strongly caustic products.

The holder of our brush should also have high walls. This way, we will protect the bathroom floor from splashes caused by water or toilet cleaning agents. Whether our toilet brush will be shiny and made of stainless steel or whether it will be a brush with a matte finish depends on our preferences and the bathroom decor. It is important that the brush fulfills its basic task of thoroughly cleaning our toilet. Let’s also remember that a toilet brush is not a lifetime product.
