Acrylic, Steel or Cast Iron - Which Bath to Choose?

Nowadays, there are many different types of baths available for purchase. This refers not only to the wide range of their shapes and sizes but also the materials used in their production. A bath is a bathroom fixture used every day for many years, so its selection should be carefully considered.

Cast Iron Baths - Durability and Solidity

A bath that was particularly popular in the past is the cast iron bath. It is a model characterized by high durability, resistance to mechanical damage, and solid construction. It is particularly suitable for retro-style bathrooms, thanks to decorative legs that can take on various shapes. Cast iron baths are also resistant to various types of scratches, allowing them to maintain their impeccable appearance for many years after purchase. This type of bath is bought for a very long time. Moreover, these products can maintain the appropriate temperature of the water poured into them for a long time, thus enhancing bathing comfort.

Unfortunately, cast iron baths also have disadvantages, one of which is their weight, making it difficult to bring them into apartments or houses. Furthermore, an empty bath is cold and unpleasant to the touch. When deciding to purchase one, it's important to also consider the lack of variety in options, as these baths are most often produced in rectangular shapes and white color. Cast iron baths can also entail quite high purchase costs since they are more expensive compared to steel or acrylic baths.

Cast iron baths will be an excellent solution for those who can spend a little more money on them and are looking for a bath that will last for years. They are perfect for stylishly decorated interiors, adding unique style and elegance. They are highly resistant to various kinds of damage and scratches, allowing their owners to enjoy their aesthetics for a very long time.

Steel Baths - Ease of Use

An alternative to cast iron baths can be steel baths, available in many different dimensions, shapes, and colors. Modern enamels used to coat them guarantee resistance to scratches, impacts, and the effects of chemical cleaning agents. These enamels are also worth choosing due to their non-adherence, which effectively prevents the buildup of lime scale and dirt, thereby facilitating bath cleaning. What's equally important, steel baths are not as heavy as cast iron ones. A bath measuring 150x70 centimeters can weigh just 30 kilograms. This affects both easy transportation and ease of installation.

Steel conducts heat very well, so warm water may cool quickly. Of course, this can be prevented by installing a styrofoam casing, which thermally insulates the bath and muffles it, so filling it with water will not generate noise. A good steel bath is definitely one that is pressed from a single sheet of thick steel. It should be coated with a thin layer of enamel, which is flexible and resistant to chipping. It's also worth knowing that steel baths do not bend under the weight of water and can be cleaned with strong detergents.

Acrylic Bath - Lightness and Resistance to Damage

Unlike cast iron and steel baths, acrylic baths are warm to the touch because this material does not dissipate heat. The main advantage of this material is primarily its lightness - a standard model weighs about 20 kilograms, which is particularly important if you're carrying out home or apartment renovations on your own. In such a situation, the owner of an acrylic bath will not have to worry about accidentally damaging walls or floors, as might happen when moving a cast iron bath. Acrylic is an extremely moldable material, which allows it to be formed in any way. That's why the choice of this type of bath is very broad, as models with seats, headrests, armrests, or shelves are available.

Another argument in favor of purchasing an acrylic bath is the ease of keeping it clean. Thanks to the special properties of this material, it will not react with the chemical compounds present in the water. Moreover, the acrylic coating prevents the spread of fungi and bacteria and does not absorb water. The smooth surface of acrylic baths, free of scratches and indentations, allows them to be wiped with a slightly damp cloth to maintain cleanliness. Another reason to buy them is the attractive price. Acrylic baths are gaining more and more recognition every year, not only because of their functional advantages but also their prices, which are not high. It is undoubtedly one of the main factors in favor of this product and an important consideration for those deliberating over the choice of the right bath.
