Bathroom bidet - what should you know about it?

When designing or renovating a bathroom, we strive to make the transformed interior more stylish and functional - the most demanding customers' expectations are met by manufacturers of bathroom fittings and ceramics offering a wide selection of products ideal for interiors in various styles. One of the solutions that is becoming increasingly popular in Poland is the bidet - this practical piece of equipment can also be an elegant decorative element. However, choosing the ideal model is often a source of the problem due to different opinions on its function and the specific features that distinguish this type of sanitary device. What you should know about the bidet before going shopping.

What is a bidet and how to use it

A bidet is one of the most useful bathroom ceramic devices, which can easily be confused with a toilet bowl - both have a similar shape, size, and are made of the same materials. One of the basic functions of the bidet is washing intimate areas immediately after using the toilet - so it should not be surprising to see both devices installed close to each other. Most importantly, a classic bidet is not an expensive bathroom fixture, and over time it is becoming more common in Polish homes.

Using a bidet should not be difficult for anyone - thanks to its streamlined shapes, it can be used while sitting facing the tap or away from it. The first version is definitely more comfortable, as it allows free operation of the tap and the possibility of setting the water stream and its temperature. It often happens that the bidet has two taps - with cold and hot water. Some devices available on the market also have a built-in dryer that allows for quick drying of the washed area without the need for disposable towels or toilet paper. It is important not to throw used toilet paper into the bidet, as this could clog the installation.

When to install a bidet in the bathroom

Nowadays, a bidet is considered a very useful bathroom fixture, so when designing a toilet, it is worth considering its installation. The device is mostly used for quickly washing intimate areas after using the toilet. It's an excellent solution for those who value a high level of hygiene. Due to its use, the bidet is most often mounted near the toilet. The solution is also often used for convenient foot washing. It is particularly useful for the elderly and disabled. The device will also be useful when small children use the bathroom, who have problems reaching the washbasin. Installing a bidet makes sense in bathrooms with enough space, as it requires about 30 cm of free space on both sides and 60 cm in front for convenient use. However, owners of small bathrooms do not have to completely give up this solution, as a classic bidet can be replaced by installing special sink fittings equipped with a small spray handle, a so-called bidet shower. It is used while sitting on the toilet, so until recently it required placing the sink next to the toilet. Currently, with the possibility of remote control, one click is enough to start the water stream. Another option is special washing lids and similarly functioning toilets. To increase the functionality of the device, it is worth arranging a place within reach for a washing agent and a towel holder.

Ways to install a bidet

Bidets are installed very similarly to toilet bowls. Therefore, they are divided into standing ones, mounted with screws to the floor, and hanging ones, using an in-wall frame. A siphon and a bidet mixer must also be installed on the device, connected using connecting hoses and angle valves to access cold and hot water. If we decide on a wall-mounted bidet directly attached to the wall, it is worth ensuring that the wall is sufficiently durable and that the frame is intended for the appropriate construction - light or heavy. The benefits of this solution include space savings and the ability to adjust the height of the device. To ensure the appropriate comfort of using the bidet, about 30 cm of free space on both sides and 60-65 cm in front should be left. Additional space should also be considered for bidets with a handset. The choice of drain for the bidet depends on the throughput, diameter, and the amount of space available under the bidet. In the case of the siphon, it should be adapted to the type of bidet and bidet mixer.

Functionality and aesthetics in one

When choosing a bidet for the bathroom, it is worth selecting it with a toilet bowl from one product line. Thanks to this, we can be sure that the whole will look extremely aesthetic due to the uniform size, style, and color. The size and style of the bathroom also play an important role in the choice. It is worth paying attention to the material of the bidet, as it will affect the durability of the device. The most commonly used materials for this purpose are unglazed or glazed ceramics, which are more resistant to damage and discoloration. Sanitary ceramics not only perform well in terms of durability but also against chemicals and sudden changes in temperature. Additionally, bidets can be covered with a protective surface that prevents sediment and contamination and helps keep the device clean. The most popular are white bidets, but in many cases, it is possible to choose a different color, such as shades of beige, navy, or gray - however, it is worth noting that most colored models require pre-ordering from the manufacturer. Various designs are also used - retro, geometric classic, or modernist shapes. Some bidet models can also be completed with special covers that give the arrangement a unique character or seats to ensure greater user comfort.

Bidet 2 in 1, a practical and stylish hybrid

In the case of a small bathroom, a great solution will be a 2 in 1 bidet, which is a combination of a classic bidet with a toilet bowl. This innovative solution means that you do not have to invest double the amount to have both devices in one place. Meeting the expectations of the most demanding customers, bathroom ceramics manufacturers are going a step further, offering versions with a heated seat and models equipped with washing functions with varying water stream intensity and temperature, along with the previously mentioned dryer, controlled by a remote control. A toilet bowl with a bidet is an ideal option for everyone - such solutions are especially recommended for bathrooms used by the elderly, disabled, those suffering from various ailments (such as hemorrhoids), and even children.

Wall-mounted or standing bidet

When deciding to purchase a bidet, at some point you will face the dilemma of which type of bidet will work best in your bathroom. A compact model or the previously mentioned 2 in 1 bidet is an excellent solution for a small bathroom - both devices will take up little space and will work perfectly in irregularly shaped rooms. In the case of large bathrooms, we can choose between a standing or wall-mounted bidet - the latter optically enlarges the space and makes daily cleaning, including washing and vacuuming, easier. Such solutions are particularly recommended for modern interiors, such as industrial or Scandinavian style. A standing bidet, due to its slightly larger size, is not suitable for installation in recesses and tight spaces but fits perfectly into the style of classic interiors and those decorated in the recently popular retro style.
