Nowadays, we have a huge choice of materials for the bathroom. It's not just about tiles or wall colours. We can opt for any furniture made from different materials and in wonderful colours. Accessories also play a big role, which we choose for our bathrooms. We can go for colourful rugs, potted plants or scented candles, which are plentiful in shops.
The ideal material for a cabinet
We have many materials to choose from. One of them is veneer. It is nothing more than a few millimetres of natural wood fragments with which the furniture boards are covered. The discerning can choose from as many as 200 species of wood. The most commonly used are beech, oak, ash, walnut or pine. Veneered boards are indistinguishable from wood and can be finished in various ways - glossy, matte, or semi-matte. When choosing veneered furniture for the bathroom, it's important to remember that they should be protected with a special lacquer that protects them from moisture. Another option is laminated furniture. Laminated MDF board is exceptionally resistant to high temperatures and mechanical damage. Laminate is a so-called thermoplastic material that is "pressed on" the surface of the board. However, it is worth knowing that laminated furniture can layer off under the influence of water.
Acrylic furniture strongly stiffens the furniture board, making the equipment exceptionally resistant to abrasion and scratches and very easy to clean. This type of finish is a treat for lovers of modern design arrangements - acrylic is characterised by a high gloss. Unsurprisingly, acrylic furniture is ideal for small bathrooms. The shiny surface of the equipment will effectively enlarge them optically. Foiled furniture, is foiled furniture. The huge advantage of foiled furniture is also its high resistance to moisture, mechanical damage and the fact that it is very easy to clean. Also important, the PVC foil offers enormous design possibilities. Manufacturers of foiled furniture offer customers an extremely wide range of colours and patterns. The fronts of the equipment can closely resemble those made from solid wood or impress with their extravagant multicoloured patterns.
HPL boards
The last big popularity is enjoyed by HPL boards. They can be used in rooms with high humidity. It is in such conditions that they perform best. They are often used by designers to build bathroom furniture and commercial facilities such as sauna or swimming pool receptions. HPL boards are made from stratified plastic, which is formed by combining specially processed paper and high-quality resins. Resin is an interesting material for the furniture industry, mainly because of its resistance to moisture, which is an important criterion when choosing, for example, a table. It is produced by some plants, mainly trees, especially coniferous ones. It is located in special intercellular spaces or ducts and is secreted by the surrounding secretory cells.
The colour of our resin depends on the colour of the tree. Depending on the type, resins have a wide range of applications. Some are used in pharmacology as medicines or ingredients for the production of medicines, from some natural rosin, shellac and turpentine are produced (used, among other things, to make paints and varnishes). In China, resin was already used to produce lacquer 3,000 years ago. In addition, resins are a raw material for the production of cosmetics, plastics and many other products. In Siberia, the resin of local species of larch is obtained for chewing - according to producers, it has cleansing and disinfectant properties for the mouth. As you can see, resin has many uses. The same is in furniture making. When choosing our cabinet under the sink, we can think about what material it should be made from. Once we have answered this question and know what to look for, there are further steps ahead to make our bathroom look good and be very functional.
Lacquered furniture
For many people, high-gloss lacquered furniture is synonymous with modern elegance. There is definitely something to it because shiny fronts not only add character and style to interiors but also fit perfectly in such luxurious trends as glamour or art deco. The only thing that can haunt the owners of stylishly shiny furniture is their maintenance. Most high-gloss lacquered furniture is covered with a special protective foil. However, not everyone knows that after the foil is removed, the furniture fronts have to go through a kind of "quarantine". First of all, do not wash them with detergents for at least a month. If we remove the foil too early, we may destroy our furniture. It is known that furniture with foil does not look as good as those without, but sometimes it is worth waiting a bit and leaving the foil. Especially if we have small children or pets in the house. Unfortunately, it is easy to destroy lacquered furniture.
It is worth spending some time looking at the different types of bathroom furniture finishes and looking at the compositions of solutions proposed by interior architects. It is impossible not to omit any factor in the hope that the whole bathroom will be as tailored as possible to our family's needs. Few people choose lacquered furniture for their bathrooms. Although they look beautiful, because of difficult maintenance and rapid wear, they can be considered impractical. Traditional bathroom furniture, which does not have the gloss or shine but looks neat and is practical, is more often seen in bathrooms. Although not completely practical, very aesthetically pleasing furniture in white is a solution. The advantage is that they enlarge our bathroom, but they are somewhat problematic to clean.
