Inspirations and Applications of Various Basin Shapes

Choosing the right basin for the bathroom is not an easy task. Nowadays, the market offers such a wide selection of designs, models, colours, and sizes of basins that it can be overwhelming. When searching for the perfect basin, it's worth taking some time to choose one that meets all functional and aesthetic requirements. A basin is a fixture we use multiple times a day, so it must meet our expectations.

Wall-mounted or freestanding

In traditional bathrooms, the basin was typically hung directly on the wall below a wall-mounted tap. The space underneath usually remained unused. It is worth choosing this solution if any household member uses a wheelchair, as this allows for easy access and independent use of the tap. Sometimes wall-mounted basins are complemented with a pedestal or semi-pedestal for added stability and improved aesthetics.

However, more commonly chosen are basins mounted on special bathroom countertops or bathroom furniture. They are very practical and elegant, and can take on intriguing modern or more traditional forms. We can find models placed on a countertop, like an elegant bowl that doubles as a bathroom decoration, or integrated into the countertop—these solutions are easier to keep clean. Wall-mounted basins are perfect for small bathrooms where every centimetre of space counts. Thanks to their unique shapes, even a small bathroom can be designed in a distinctive way.

Which shape to choose

One of the more commonly chosen shapes is rectangular; these types of basins blend easily into both modern and more traditional bathroom designs. Simple lines and uncomplicated shapes bring elegance and style to the space. Rectangular basins impress with their aesthetic shape and organise the space, fitting into the geometry-inspired trend that's been popular for some seasons.

On the other side are round and oval basins. Soft lines fit perfectly into traditional styles. They work great as basins integrated with bathroom furniture. Using this type of basin gives the room a cosy and energetic character. Round and oval basins beautifully complement an oval bathtub, giving the bathroom the atmosphere of a comfortable bath room.

Also available on the market are basins with irregular shapes, worth considering, especially if you dream of creating a very modern, even avant-garde bathroom.

Large, small, or perhaps double

The size of the basin should be primarily matched to the size of the bathroom. A basin that is too large will overwhelm the room with its size, possibly making it uncomfortable to use. Conversely, one that is too small will 'disappear' in the bathroom, disrupting its aesthetics. Depending on your needs, you can find very small basins measuring just 30 cm in width, or basins as wide as 180 cm. Regardless of size, attention should be paid to its depth. A basin that's too shallow will lead to water splashing all around after washing your hands. An optimal depth allowing convenient use of the basin is 40 cm.

Owners of really large bathrooms can consider installing double basins. It will undoubtedly be practical when there are many household members. This is an ideal solution for a large family to eliminate morning and evening queues.

Basin, but made of what material

Nowadays, we have a really wide range of options. The days when the only option was white sanitary ceramic are long gone. Of course, ceramic is still the most common choice, but it's easy to find basins in many interesting colours. Ceramic basins are practical and durable, and thanks to modern technological solutions, also very easy to keep clean. Manufacturers cover them with various coatings that minimise the possibility of limescale or dirt build-up. Exploring other solutions, you'll find granite or marble basins. They are practically indestructible and also very beautiful. Unfortunately, appliances made from such noble materials are quite expensive. Apart from the mentioned materials, composites and conglomerates like acrylic are often used to produce basins. Basins made from them are much lighter, can be shaped into any form, are quite durable, and easy to keep clean.

Those wishing to design a bathroom in a cool, industrial style can opt for steel basins—enamelled or not. If you're more interested in creating an original yet cosy space, you can choose glass basins available in many colours, or even wooden basins.

As you can see, bathroom ceramic manufacturers are competing with original ideas and solutions. Just explore the offerings and choose equipment that allows you to create your dream bathroom.
