Bathroom lighting is a topic for many hours of discussion. It must be properly chosen. Often the problem arises of what would be the most appropriate not only for aesthetic reasons but also practical ones. How to position the light in the bathroom so it's not too glaring? What to choose – chandelier, ceiling light, wall lamp? How to arrange the individual light elements to give a pleasing effect to the eye?
A few simple rules presented here should resolve most of these doubts. Let's start with what is most important.
Main Light
The size of the chandelier, ceiling light, or any other type of light-dispersing element largely depends on the size of the bathroom. With a low bathroom, it's better to forego a suspended ceiling. It depresses the room further. In such a case, it's better to apply, for example, a ceiling light or very popular tubes. However, if you have a large space, you have more room to play. You can experiment with suspended ceilings, light zones with various light intensities. You'll need a different type of light for makeup, another for a relaxing bath, and yet another for everyday use.
This doesn't mean that in a small bathroom you can't also play with light. The fact is there are fewer possibilities, but nothing is impossible. A small bathroom also has its charm where you can experiment a bit. If the bathroom is small but high, simple, hanging chandeliers with adjustment possibilities will look beautiful. What you choose depends solely on you and the room's design.
Once you choose your main lighting, invest in LED bulbs. They have a wide range of light colors, are energy-efficient, and their very valuable advantage is that they don't glare as is the case with halogen bulbs. Besides, a good quality bulb comes with up to 3 years of warranty!
Mirror in the Light's Glow
The mirror is one of the most important elements of bathroom equipment. It has particular significance for women. But not only them. Proper mirror lighting is not just flawless makeup but also shaving without unnecessary cuts. Therefore, it is very important.
Mirror lighting is a very individual matter. It is assumed that if it is mainly for makeup, the light color should range between 5000-6500 k (the so-called daylight). Several types of lighting are available to customers, which will also complement its design.
For mirrors, we have several combinations. When mounting side light, you should ensure it's as close to the mirror as possible. This light has a special task – it must perfectly illuminate the face and give it a natural hue. A good solution is to place two fittings on both sides of the mirror or several at the top and sides. Many mirrors already have mounted lights.
An important element when installing lights is considering the size of mirrors, their number, and how they're arranged in the bathroom. Remember not to install lights opposite them. Reflections and glares will prevent you from comfortably viewing yourself, let alone shaving or applying makeup.
Decorative Light
Additional elements that will light up the bathroom can create an incredible atmosphere. They work especially well when there is a bathtub in the bathroom. A hot, aromatic bath with the right lighting can be truly exceptional and extraordinarily relaxing. Perhaps with someone? Such a bath with excellent lighting will be a wonderful conclusion to the evening.
Another great proposal for decorative lighting is panels with LED lights. You can mount them, for example, directly above the bathtub or shower. LED tape is also an option for bathtubs, as it can be mounted on the base.
The colors of light can also be a decorative element. If you want a modern touch, look for white, even blue lights. The more yellow the light, the more the room becomes homely and cozy.
Not Every Light for the Bathroom
A bedside lamp from the bedroom or a desk lamp definitely won't suit the bathroom. A standing lamp also won't meet our expectations. Unless you have a truly large-sized bathroom. Even so, such a lamp should be designed for this type of room, not, for example, a living room. A bathroom lamp will be moisture-resistant, more solid, and thus safer.
The bathroom is also where everyone should feel comfortable and have freedom of movement. Hanging lamps that need to be avoided won't be a good idea. Of course, in a tall and large room, they will be quite the ornament, but in smaller bathrooms, they will be more of a nuisance.
Remember that bathroom lighting should be properly arranged, taking into account areas that need a lot of light, like the zone around the mirror and sink. We should light each zone of our bathroom, like the bath or shower, according to needs and design values. Remember about light fixtures. They must be designed for installation in the bathroom – moisture-resistant, and above all, safe.
