How to combine design with functionality? This question arises for almost everyone who is decorating or renovating their interiors. Maximising space usage and combining it with their chosen style seems very difficult. We suggest how to approach this topic in the bathroom when choosing a place to hang towels.

In many apartments (especially in blocks), bathrooms are extremely small. It is hard to plan the furniture layout freely, so you have to opt for a design that offers maximum space usage. Essential in a bathroom are of course a bathtub or shower, toilet, sink with a cabinet and - exactly - a place for towels. Depending on the size of the bathroom and its style, you might be considering between a hook and a shelf. Each of these solutions can have an elegant design or be kept in boho, industrial or minimalist styles.

Towel hook - product features

A towel hook is a product that works well in narrow spaces and small bathrooms, as it does not take up much space. Of course, there are also standing hooks among this type of equipment, but a wall-mounted item helps organise the space smartly, without cluttering it. What are the advantages of a towel hook?

• It is perfect for drying underwear,
• it makes maintaining hygiene easier - towels hung over it will dry faster than those thrown on the bathtub or cabinet,
• if mounted near the shower, it keeps the towel within arm's reach,
• it does not take up floor space,
• the rods can be positioned on several levels, increasing the hook's capacity,
• it is easy to install - the hook can be attached with screws,
• it is usually an affordable product,
• there is a large selection of hooks on the market, so some model will fit into the bathroom design.

A towel hook can have various forms (rods, handles) and can be made of different materials. It is a practical solution for most bathrooms - particularly when a bathroom shelf does not fit there in any way.

Bathroom shelf - a place for towels

Another solution for storing towels is a bathroom shelf. It usually takes the form of a small, hanging rack, which, in addition to towel space, also provides room for other products. It can be used to place cosmetics, set containers for toiletries or other accessories. A bathroom shelf can hold a large number of items and can also be a decorative element.

If you don't have space on the wall or don't want to fill the space with too large furniture, a single bathroom shelf with a rod will work well. Towels can be hung on the rod, and above it, there is an additional shelf where you can store quite a few accessories. This way, every inch of space can be used smartly.

Furniture for towels - what to choose?

When furnishing a bathroom, you first need to consider which product you have space for in the bathroom. If you want to have not only towels but also cosmetics at hand and close by - a bathroom shelf seems to be the best choice. However, if you have other furniture meant for cosmetic products, care accessories or other items, then such a shelf might not be helpful.

A hook is the simplest solution, taking up little space (if it only consists of rods) and you can attach it near the shower. One of the many advantages of this product is that you can reach out for a towel immediately after getting out of the shower without splashing the bathroom.

Furniture for towels and bathroom style

The choice of shelves and hooks is large - you can match the colour, material, shape and style of each product to ensure that even the simple act of hanging a towel is enjoyable. What shelf and what hook will suit different interior styles?

• Industrial style - if it is to be a bathroom shelf, it should be made of wood and steel, preferably in black. Remember, this style is quite raw and simple in form.
• Boho style - a shelf can be made of rattan or wood, as this style references nature and uses natural materials.
• Glamour style - this is the most elegant of all interior styles. For hanging towels, something in black, silver or shiny colours will work. Here even the hook must be luxurious!
• Retro style - if your bathroom is designed in a Victorian or Louis style, the shelf can be made for example of brass, which will give it sophistication. Add a beautiful mirror in a golden frame, and the bathroom will be extremely stylish.

Remember, every element of the bathroom should be functional, which does not mean it can't also be stylish!
