At what height should a bidet tap be installed?

Although until recently the bidet was not a common sanitary appliance in our bathroom, fortunately, this trend is beginning to change. Despite being still perceived by many as an unnecessary fixture that just takes up a lot of space - household members are increasingly appreciating the comfort and hygiene associated with having a bidet. But is it really essential, and if so, how should a bidet be installed - at what distance from the toilet bowl and at what height? Read on, and we'll answer these questions.

Bidet tap - how many cm above the floor?

To use a bidet, you need adequate space to allow free movement. The bidet should be at least 30 cm away from the WC bowl. This is the essential minimum, and unfortunately, in smaller bathrooms, bidets too close to the toilet are often encountered. Users making this choice significantly limit movement and reduce comfort. It is important even in smaller bathrooms to allocate at least 30 cm for this gap. Moreover, if older people or those with mobility issues will use the bidet, this gap should be significantly larger - then the distance from the WC should be from 50 to 60 cm.

The height at which bidet taps are installed can be an individual matter, depending on the height of household members. It is usually recommended to install them at a height of 40 cm. This distance is measured from the floor. For older people or those with mobility issues, this height can be increased to 50 centimeters. Naturally, taller people will want to increase this height. Ultimately, the height at which the bidet should be from the floor is meant to allow easy washing for people around 170 cm to 180 cm tall. If any household member is significantly taller, then installing the bidet at a slightly higher height might be a more comfortable solution.

Stylistic harmony

One should also not forget about the free space in front of the bidet. This should be approximately 60 cm. It's customary to install the bidet right next to the toilet for practicality. It's also an aesthetic homage, as the bidet looks most impressive next to the WC. Manufacturers offer different bidets, and you can choose between two main types: standing and hanging bidets.

The most reasonable solution seems to be matching the style of the bidet bowl to the toilet bowl. Both should be maintained in the same style to create harmony among them. This solution ensures they not only work together, but also coordinate with the rest of the bathroom, providing users a sense of harmony and order. It's best to order the bidet and toilet bowl from a single manufacturer. This way, you can be sure they will have the same style, color, and design. Sometimes a bidet and toilet bowl ordered from different manufacturers, although they may look similar or identical at first glance, differ significantly, and the difference only emerges when the product arrives in the bathroom and is ready for installation.

Other taps with hot and cold water – washbasin tap

A standard mounted bidet at a height of 30 cm should be compatible with other bathroom elements. Specific sanitary ceramics also have their recommended tap installation height. In the case of installing a washbasin, this is usually a distance of 85 cm from the floor. As for the washbasin, the built-in tap can be mounted at a height of 25 to 35 cm above its upper edge. This solution will look both aesthetic and be practical and comfortable. In the case of a washbasin tap installed lower, this can cause problems when using it and cause water to splash due to high pressure. This would be very inconvenient every time you wash your hands.

What about the bath tap and shower tap?

Traditionally, it's assumed that the edge of the bath should be at a height of 40 to 60 cm above the floor, with the latter value mostly concerning freestanding baths. The bath tap should be about 20 cm above the upper edge. As for the shower tap, it should be at a height of 110 to 130 cm. Additionally, rain showers, becoming more popular, are typically installed at a height of 200 cm. The shower tap should be placed about 60-70 cm from the shower head.
