A towel rack seems like a trivial item - but it's hard to imagine a bathroom without this detail. It not only hangs close to the shower and is within reach after a bath, but also allows towels to dry freely and hygienically. See how to choose the right bathroom rack, at what height to hang it, and how to match it with the bathroom arrangement.
Bathroom racks - what type to choose?
Depending on the size and design of the bathroom, the choice includes standing racks and wall-mounted racks. Hanging bathroom racks take up little space and are easy to install. Standing racks require more space but can also be an interesting element of bathroom decor.
Hanging bathroom racks
The simplest and cheapest solution are adhesive hooks - you can buy them in most hardware and interior stores. The advantage of hooks is that they are incredibly easy to install and fit even in very small bathrooms.
Apart from towel hooks, an interesting solution is a rack-shelf. Such a rack can accommodate not only bath towels but also toiletries and other accessories. Such a rack can also serve as a decorative role - it can hold a candle or a plant. Moreover, if it is slightly larger and more robust, you can install more hooks in it, and besides towels, hang bathrobes, for example.
A towel rack can also be placed on the bathroom door - it's not the most convenient option since the door is usually farther from the bathtub, but this type of rack doesn't need to be screwed into the wall. A towel rack placed over the bathroom door can be a solution in really small spaces.
Standing bathroom racks
In bathrooms with more space (especially on the floor), you can opt for a standing rack. Taller models have several tiers where you can hang bath towels - this is a good solution for hygienic reasons. An advantage of a standing rack is also the ability to place it anywhere - they do not require installation or drilling into the wall. Standing racks often have very modern forms and add elegance to any bathroom.
Towel racks - where to place them?
Towel racks need to be functional - that's why their correct placement is so important. Without a doubt, they should be within reach. Towels should be close to the bathtub or shower cabin for easy access. The hooks should be mounted so you can easily reach a bath towel without having to step out of the shower.
At what height do we hang the rack? You need to consider that towels, especially bath ones, are quite large. The towel rack must be high enough so they don't touch the ground. If we also want to hang a bathrobe, we need to additionally measure at what height to mount the rack.
A bathroom rack can also be mounted by the sink. In this spot, the rack can be smaller since it will hold one or maybe two small towels. It's easiest to mount small adhesive hooks at hand height. Small suction hooks near the sink won't take up space and will certainly be a convenience for household members. For hygiene reasons, it's also good to separate face towels from bath towels. Hooks for small towels can also be stuck to the bathroom cabinet door - if indeed there is no other place in the space.
Towel racks - what material?
Such racks will hang in the bathroom, a place with high humidity. Therefore, they must be made of materials that cope well in such conditions. Although wood often looks noble, it may not hold up well in high temperatures and humidity. It can "swell" and come apart. Any racks made from plastic and stainless steel work well - they are not threatened by moisture in the air or even dripping water. There are many models on the market that can be easily matched to the interior.
Towel racks seem trivial, but try to imagine a bathroom without one! Towels placed haphazardly do not dry, become damp, and are unsuitable for next use. What towel racks to choose? They must be made of moisture-resistant materials and be the right size so there is room for towels for the whole family.
