A bathroom in spa style? It's possible even in your home

The word spa derives from Latin and means Sanus Per Aquam, or health through water. This term therefore means taking advantage of the benefits of water, such as cosmetic baths, massages, hydromassages, Scottish showers, saunas, pools, and many other attractions for the body. A visit to a spa salon is not only an extraordinary relaxation for our body but also a range of treatments that relax, rejuvenate, and have a health-promoting effect on our skin. However, do we always have to visit such a place to feel so special? Wouldn't it be great if we had even a small spa in our own home?

Spa-style bathroom – where to start

Each of us is different, and therefore something different relaxes us. For some, water jets will prove relaxing; for others, a warm bath with essential oils. When we want to arrange our bathroom into a spa, let's consider our own preferences. This will greatly facilitate the selection of appropriate furnishings. If we don't know how to complement the bathroom with accessories, let's visit one of the professional spas and see what makes them have such an extraordinary atmosphere. Apart from the operation principle, the arrangement is also important. The color of the tiles, the rug, the shape of the sink – all these things turn the bathroom into an oasis of relaxation and a home spa.

Room layout

It's worth doing it right. If we have a large bathroom, we can "divide" it into two sectors, one of which will serve for relaxing baths, and the other for other tasks. There's no need for walls or screens. We can use recently popular glass blocks, or just the placement of elements can separate these two zones. Well-planned space ensures harmony in our private rejuvenation and relaxation studio.

With a small bathroom, it will be more challenging, especially due to the fact that it will be difficult to delineate the aforementioned zones. However, it's worth carefully thinking about the placement of specific elements to create a cohesive whole that gives the effect of a personal, albeit small, spa. In such a mini-bathroom, consider the right amount of cabinets to fit as many as possible but also avoid overdoing it with "furnishing".

Equipment

Let's start with the fact that every piece of equipment in our spa-style bathroom should be carefully considered. There's no room here for mixing different styles or colors. The bathroom should therefore be finished in a single, subdued color scheme, and fixtures or ceramics should be chosen very carefully, preferably from the same manufacturer. This way, we avoid differences in colors and shapes. When choosing products, remember that from the moment we cross the threshold of the spa, our senses switch off, expecting relaxation. Therefore, the bathroom should fulfill a similar function. Too intense colors or poorly chosen shapes can disrupt this state. When choosing equipment, consider a bathtub with hydromassage or a shower with various spray options.

A bathtub, if we have the opportunity, can be freestanding. Its very appearance will make us feel like we're entering a real salon.

An element of bathroom equipment is also lighting. Ensure that aside from the main light and the mirror light, which will surely be intense, there are wall sconces or halogens in our bathroom. These will help create the right climate in our personal spa. Turning on a small amount of light in this way will further enhance the unique moments, e.g. during a hot bath with added essential oils.

Accessories

In this case, also follow the principle of "minimalism above all." A spa is a place where everything has its well-thought-out place, where order and harmony prevail. Variously colored cosmetics placed everywhere certainly won't create this atmosphere. Therefore, make sure they are hidden. However, if they must be outside due to lack of space, let their packaging be as similar as possible in color to each other and even, if possible, to the entire décor of our bathroom.

A nice touch that will give the bathroom the hallmark of a spa will also be a soft rug in a pastel color. Let's place it next to the bath or sink. In addition, soft towels, e.g., beige, white, or ecru, neatly folded or rolled into a roll and placed in one spot, will also introduce the intended effect. Also consider a plant, even just one, which will break the brightness of our home spa while bringing natural freshness.

In fact, organizing a bathroom in a spa style doesn't require great skills. It's enough to be inspired by ready-made suggestions, see what a real spa looks like, and voila – we've got it! Small extras, flowers, the right arrangement of towels – and our bathroom takes on a whole new dimension.

If we want the "old" bathroom to turn into a home spa, it's worth considering repainting the tiles with a special paint, replacing the fixtures, and the aforementioned accessories. Instead of curtains, consider blinds, like day-night blinds, or leave the window "bare" (as long as this doesn't compromise our privacy in the bathroom).

Both in a new and renovated bathroom, scented candles will work great. You can buy these in any supermarket. We have various wax colors and different fragrances to choose from. They will beautifully complement the rest of the equipment and add to the atmosphere.

In every case, whether arranging a new one or renovating an old bathroom, remember that a spa is a thought-out harmony, pastel colors, order, appropriate, atmospheric lighting, and carefully chosen accessories.

When we take care of all this, let's try some mood music, light the displayed candles, and bring a glass of good wine. Let the family know that the bathroom is ours for the next two hours. This way, we ensure ourselves unbroken peace and full enjoyment of relaxation.
