Renovating, whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or a room, fills us with dread. Choosing paint, tiles, flooring, or other elements is not the only source of our fear. We also worry about the mess, whether we have enough funds, and if we can find good professionals. All this makes us fear the new changes we want to bring to our home instead of enjoying them.
Stress-Free Renovations
The basic rule is to plan the renovation well. Let's not do it at the last minute just because, for example, we have some extra money. Let's think about it in advance. Start saving systematically with the planned room change in mind. Check the prices of individual items, the average costs of specific work, and gather slightly more than that amount. Something unexpected might happen during the renovation for which we will have to pay extra.
Planning the renovation well in advance allows us to choose the right professional. We can then choose among them, rather than having to decide on whoever is available at that time, who may not necessarily be precise and thorough in their work. Take the time to gather opinions about them, either from friends or online. Check their work at someone's home. Ask the residents if they are satisfied.
The Mess is Controllable
Furniture moved out, dirt everywhere, dust, cement, and other kinds of particles. Gray windows from dust don't let the sun in, and floors splattered with paint are unwashable. We look at all this and roll up our sleeves and scrub. However, we can make it easier by securing everything possible in advance.
All necessary accessories for securing the room during renovation are available in stores. We have various types of foils at our disposal. Use them to cover the floors. The slightly more expensive ones are perfect because they are thicker and more durable. We can even tape them down with yellow or white paper tape so they don't move. We can use the same tapes to cover windows and door frames. Moreover, cover the window panes with foil as well; this time, the cheapest will suffice. It's about protecting the panes from paint or glue splashes. If we need to remove doors, make a makeshift one from foil. Dust will not spread to other rooms. Besides, prepare old towels and dampen them. Placed under the doors, they will stop the dust. We can also arrange a path from them that our renovator will move along. This way, they won't spread as much dirt and dust while moving around.
Cleaning is Fun
When everything is done, it's time to start cleaning. First and foremost, warm water, good cleaning agents, plus a vacuum cleaner. I suppose I don't have to say that we vacuum first wherever we can. If we secured the room with foil and tapes, just tear them off and throw them away. Dust and dirt will stay on the foil, making it easy to remove. Change the water frequently to keep it clean. Don't worry about how much there is to clean up, but enjoy what you'll see once everything is washed. A guaranteed amazing effect.
