The variety of concealed elements offers many possibilities. Now in bathroom design, the only limit is imagination. More and more often, unusual solutions are used, such as showers without a tray or ceiling-mounted showers.
How is it done?
More and more often, modern-looking trayless showers are used in bathroom arrangements. The application of an elegant solution results in space optimisation and interesting additional solutions in the bathroom. Most often, instead of a tray, a point drain is constructed, where it is important to remember the slope or a linear drain. With the use of concealed mixers, this adds space to the bathroom, which can be additionally utilised.
The most interesting solution that is starting to be used more and more often is the ceiling shower, which works well in lower rooms. You can also specially lower the ceiling under the shower for this purpose. All concealed modules are located in the wall, the rain shower head is in the ceiling, while the only visible element is the mixer, which modulates the water temperature. These solutions are ideal for small bathrooms where space is needed. Thanks to the versatility of the concealed modules, the bathroom can be designed to meet the needs of the most demanding.
Proper installation of concealed elements
Before starting installation, it is good to check the thickness of the wall on which the concealed modules will be mounted. There are situations where the wall is not thick enough and needs to be built up with aerated concrete blocks. The depth at which concealed mixers are installed is 6 centimetres to 12 centimetres. Openings in the wall must be prepared for the hot and cold water pipes, and space must be made for all the concealed elements.
Grooves should also be made for the hot and cold water connection network, which will be led to the installation site of the spout, showerhead, or jets. After the installation is completed, the surface of the grooves should be levelled. If the hot water is swapped with cold water, a special correcting adapter can be purchased. It is assumed that the optimal height for the mixer is 110 centimetres from the floor in the shower cabin, and 20 centimetres from the bathtub rim. It is also important that covers and other elements, such as spouts, showerheads, and shower handles, are mounted after finishing all construction works.
What is worth knowing?
Concealed elements are very labor-intensive to install, requiring additional chiseling to insert the plumbing installations. For this reason, they are most often installed in new bathrooms or during major renovations to enhance comfort and provide additional free space. When well-installed, concealed modules ensure that the installation will last for many years. However, with poorly designed installations and bad components, the consequences can be unfavorable.
Some manufacturers design mixers so that the internal module can be accessed and checked for potential damage by removing the decorative rosette. It is worth paying attention to this when choosing a concealed mixer for the bathroom. It is also good to check which plumbing elements need to be purchased for the appropriate mixer model, which significantly increases the installation cost. To avoid additional costs, it is recommended to buy components from well-known manufacturers and pay attention to the quality and review of each component.
