What Shower Enclosure to Choose?

Are you moving into a new house or apartment, or perhaps renovating your bathroom? Surely, you are faced with the choice of the right shower enclosure. Contrary to appearances, the decision about this bathroom element is not so simple: when looking for shower enclosures, you need to consider many different aspects. What kind of enclosure to choose for a small bathroom, and which one will fit large bathrooms? What to pay attention to and which shower enclosure to choose? We advise on how to prepare for choosing an enclosure for your bathroom.

What Shower Enclosure to Choose? What to Consider?

Size of the Shower Enclosure

Currently, a really wide range of shower enclosures is available on the market - from simple and classic, through freestanding enclosures, corner enclosures, deep tray enclosures, but also low ones that are accessible for the elderly. One of the key issues we have to consider when asking "what shower enclosure" is the matter of... the space in the bathroom where it will be installed. This refers not only to fitting the enclosure to the size of our bathroom but also whether we choose corner enclosures, niche enclosures, or wall-mounted enclosures. Moreover, when arranging the space, it is worth focusing on making the shower enclosure match the bathroom decor.

Shower enclosures are most often available with a 90x90 cm base - this size is considered the most optimal. For a small bathroom, it is better to choose slightly smaller base dimensions, 80x80 cm - the enclosure is somewhat smaller but still comfortable to use. When choosing the size of a shower enclosure with a tray, special attention should be paid to whether it will fit the water drainage properly. Moreover, if the shower enclosure does not come with a tray, it is necessary to match the height of the enclosure wall to the depth of the tray.

A Modern Solution: The Walk-In Shower

The size of the shower enclosure matters not only for enclosures with trays - the increasingly popular solution is the walk-in shower. By opting for this solution, we can easily fit the enclosure to the space in our bathroom, even one with non-standard dimensions. Available in the Mexen range, walk-in shower walls are available in various sizes: from 50 to even 140 cm in width. This avoids the need to adjust specific shower enclosures - the solution is not only convenient but also extremely aesthetic and works great in modern bathroom arrangements.

Shower Enclosures: Types

Currently, various types of shower enclosures are available on the market, allowing us to perfectly adapt them to our bathroom. We have a variety of models to choose from - if you're wondering which shower enclosure to choose, start with its type.

  • corner shower enclosure: this is the most popular model, which is perfect for a small bathroom. In this case, the enclosure adheres to two walls of the bathroom - these types of enclosures are easy to install, and moreover, it is not difficult to maintain their cleanliness. This model is available in both square and rectangular versions. A semi-circular version of this model is also quite popular.

  • wall-mounted shower enclosure: this type of shower enclosure offers more design possibilities as it only adheres to one wall of the bathroom. Wall-mounted shower enclosures will perform better in larger bathrooms.

  • niche shower enclosure: another popular model often found in homes. As the name suggests, the shower is placed in a niche, and this type of enclosure is equipped only with doors.

  • walk-in shower: this is a completely different solution from shower enclosures with trays. In this case, shower walls are installed, separating the shower area from the rest of the bathroom. There are no doors in this enclosure - the entrance to the shower is completely open, which works well for elderly individuals since there is no fear of accidental falls, which might occur with trays, especially high ones.

What Shower Enclosure to Choose: Material

The wide range of shower enclosures allows for perfect matching to individual needs. We've already looked at enclosure models, now let's look at the material a shower enclosure can be made from.

  • glass panel enclosures: these are made from tempered glass, which is characterized by high resistance (suitable for homes with children or elderly people - in case of an accident, the glass breaks into rounded pieces that do not cut). Moreover, tempered glass shower enclosures are of really high-quality fabrication and will last for many years. Often, glass enclosures are covered with a special coating that prevents limescale build-up, making it much easier to maintain the cleanliness of such enclosures.

  • plastic enclosures: these enclosures are cheaper, but their downside is definitely less durability. Such an enclosure will thus have a shorter lifespan, but remember, its longevity can still be quite long - as long as it is properly maintained.

Choosing a Shower Enclosure. Does the Type of Door Matter?

Shower enclosures differ not only in size, type, and material - doors are an extremely important element of each enclosure. Available are enclosures with sliding doors, hinged doors, and folding doors. We choose their type not only based on convenience but also the positioning of the shower and the size of the bathroom. What types of doors exist for these enclosures?

  • hinged doors: as the name suggests, this is a standard type of door for enclosures - they usually open outwards, so this solution is more suitable for larger bathrooms.

  • sliding doors: the doors of the enclosure are placed on special rails or rollers. This choice is excellent for smaller bathrooms.

  • folding doors: a less common solution, the doors fold like an accordion. This is a good option for small bathrooms where space is limited - just remember that this type of door is not as watertight as others.

  • walk-in: in this system, doors are completely eliminated - only special shower walls are used, whose design prevents water from spilling outside the shower.

As you can see, choosing a shower enclosure is not a simple task - however, we hope that with our guide we have dispelled all doubts!
