Kitchen Tap - Is It Worth Installing a Filter?

Are you currently setting up a kitchen in a new apartment, or perhaps renovating an old one? One of the basic elements of this room is, of course, the sink and a suitably chosen kitchen tap. More and more people are opting for an ecological solution that allows for the reduction of plastic use and waste: that is, a tap with a water filter. When buying bottled water, we have clear information about the content of mineral ingredients - with tap water, we cannot ascertain this. Precisely for safety reasons, a significant number of people decide to install a filter in the kitchen tap. Is it really worth choosing a water filter?

How to Choose a Kitchen Tap

It's worth starting by noting that there is currently a huge variety of different kitchen taps available on the market, which means we can easily choose one that will work best in our kitchen. Of course, the fundamental issue is whether we are just setting up the kitchen or renovating it: in the latter case, we must choose a tap that fits the existing installation. If we are just designing and setting up our kitchen, we have more leeway.

Another consideration is how often we use the kitchen - less frequent cooks might opt for more basic models, whereas more demanding users might find retractable spouts more suitable. However, in all these cases, taps with filters work well - especially if we belong to the group of people who strive to care for our planet and want to reduce plastic consumption. The market offers both separate filters that are mounted on the tap and modern taps that already come equipped with a filter. This solution not only reduces waste but also saves money - while also ensuring our safety.

We should also remember that the tap and spout must visually match our sink, and the spout itself must be high enough to use comfortably and direct the water stream where needed - that is why it is worth choosing a flexible spout when purchasing.

Why Install a Filter, Health First

When buying bottled water - whether spring or mineral, we can see on the label what mineral ingredients it contains and be sure that it does not contain any harmful substances. Choosing to drink tap water requires more caution, especially in apartment blocks: the plumbing may be old, exposing us to contaminants and harmful compounds. Opting for a filter in the tap ensures our health and safety - thanks to filtration, tap water is fully suitable for direct consumption, without needing to boil or additionally filter it in special jugs and bottles.

A filter tap allows for the removal of compounds such as heavy metals, chlorine, or calcium, allowing us to drink tap water without any worries. Furthermore, the most modern taps allow not only regular water filtration but also to obtain mineral-enriched water: straight from our kitchen tap! High-quality fittings, filters, and appropriate cartridges are often the best solution for enjoying clean water and caring for the environment.

Filtered Tap vs. Water Taste

Apart from safety and health concerns, many people choose filtered taps also for the taste benefits, especially of cold filtered water: the filtered water has no taste or smell (and we all certainly know the taste of chlorine or iron when drinking unfiltered tap water). Moreover, such water is more refreshing and does not alter the taste of coffee, tea, or prepared dishes in the slightest. In addition to removing impurities and dangerous compounds, water filters soften the water and allow for the removal of bacteria and pathogens. The decision to install a filter on the spout or buy a tap with a built-in filter allows us to take care of not only our health but also our planet.
