In recent years, we have become fans of in-wall toilet frames. What is the reason for the fondness we have given them? Undoubtedly, it is related to their aesthetics, easy access to the floor beneath the suspended toilet bowl, and muted noises from the working flush tank. However, some people, when purchasing products for their bathroom, don't know what an in-wall toilet frame actually is. Read our article where we attempt to answer this question.
In-wall toilet frames
An in-wall frame is a ready-made metal structure that we place in the wall. Thanks to it, we can mount a suspended toilet bowl, bidet, or urinal, as it can easily support a large weight. In the case of in-wall toilet frames, this is a load of up to 400 kg! Therefore, they easily support a person sitting and using the toilet. The in-wall set includes, apart from a powder-coated steel frame, additional equipment. A flush tank, a chrome flush button, and supplementary accessories such as mounting pins for the bowl, caps, or coupling sleeves are essential.
In-wall frames are available in many versions, and most leading bathroom fixture manufacturers decide to introduce them to their offer. Customers can no longer imagine a modern bathroom arrangement without their use. In-wall frames allow smart hiding of sanitary connections and limit the space needed for mounting a toilet, and in-wall flush tanks don't generate unnecessary noise. However, choosing a frame can be tricky, so we will provide you with valuable tips on what you should consider when purchasing.
How to choose an in-wall toilet frame?
When choosing an in-wall toilet frame, you need to pay attention to the type of wall you have where you intend to place it. Frames are divided into products for heavy and light construction. An in-wall frame for heavy construction, also known as a set for so-called wet construction, will work well for brick or walls that require bricking. The undeniable advantage of frames for heavy construction is their lower price and smaller size. At the same time, you have to expect a longer and slightly more challenging installation. When choosing a frame for wet construction, it's worth looking at models with Styrofoam filling. This guarantees quieter operation.
Frames for light construction (otherwise known as frames for dry construction) are chosen much more frequently by customers because they have universal application. They are designed for gypsum board walls, but they can also be successfully used for brick walls. The weight of the entire construction and the person using the toilet is supported by the in-wall frame, not a solid brick wall. Therefore, a frame for light construction must be properly mounted according to the manufacturer's instructions. For this purpose, it should be screwed to the wall and the floor, and, in some models, also to the ceiling.
Individual models vary in height. In-wall toilet frames are divided into three types:
- in-wall sets for low construction, with the load-bearing frame height of approx. 80/90 cm (low frame),
- in-wall sets for high construction, frame height ranges from approximately 110 to 130 cm,
- self-supporting constructions with a reinforced frame.
What to pay attention to when viewing in-wall toilet frames?
An in-wall toilet set includes a water tank used for flushing away waste. Its capacity is usually around 6 liters. Make sure whether the model you choose allows for the use of only half this amount. This is an ecological solution that allows reducing water usage. It can also translate to lower bills.
There are also models available nowadays where you can stop the flushing process. This is a useful option to limit water use by only using the amount necessary to remove waste. Remember that efficient installation of the flushing system and the applied soundproofing mat ensures high satisfaction with the installation of in-wall frames.
In-wall frames can be enriched with trendy additional accessories. Various flush buttons are currently available, so you're sure to match it to your bathroom. According to our designers, it's best when the flush is high enough to reach with the seat raised.
The best in-wall toilet frames
A few years ago, in-wall frames were not as appreciated. Many of our customers were concerned about their installation, paying attention to the problematic process of removing potential faults. In the case of a frame by a leading manufacturer, it is most often designed so that you can easily access the inside of the housing by removing the flush button. When choosing a specific model of in-wall frame, remember to ask the customer advisor about this aspect and check whether it will pose any difficulty for you. It is also worth paying attention to branded in-wall sets when making a purchase, as they usually have a long warranty period (about 10 years), and in the event of any faults, it is much easier to purchase a faulty element.
In-wall frames are chosen by customers guided not only by fashion but, above all, by practical considerations. A wide choice of products available on the market allows for a well-thought-out choice and matching the height of the housing to individual needs. And thanks to the emergence of a protruding wall, you can create a functional shelf or a built-in cabinet. The height of the frame determines how much space you will be able to utilize.
