How to choose the perfect bathroom mirror?

In reality, few of us consider that we should take some time to properly choose a bathroom mirror. It's important to remember that it should match not only the style but also the size of the bathroom. A bathroom mirror serves not only a practical function but can also have an aesthetic impact on the appearance of the entire room. The modern bathroom accessories market provides us with a range of options when it comes to choosing the right mirror, both in terms of shape, size, and even finish.

A bathroom mirror, essential in every bathroom

When designing a bathroom, we usually try to give it a specific style, so choosing a mirror cannot be left to chance. It is an extremely important element of the fittings that everyone in the household uses every day. It can serve a decorative purpose, but in reality, its functional aspect is the most important. Every day we stand in front of the mirror to apply makeup or shave, style our hair, apply contact lenses, or simply check our appearance.

The bathroom mirror should be large enough to freely view the upper part of the body. In a larger bathroom, you can have a mirror of a larger size, allowing you to see your entire figure. However, most often the bathroom is not a very large room, so mirrors are mounted above the sink at face height for most household members. In the case of mirrors for a small bathroom, both round or oval mirrors and rectangular ones work just as well.

At what height to mount a bathroom mirror?

Regardless of whether you choose a round, rectangular, oval mirror, or a model in another shape, the height at which the bathroom mirror is hung is very important. A properly chosen mirror should allow all household members to view themselves freely in it. For large mirrors hung on the wall, it is generally accepted that the bottom edge of the mirror should not be less than 120 cm above the floor. In the case of a smaller mirror hanging above the sink, it is advisable to maintain a distance of 20 cm above it, which will prevent splashing the mirror while washing hands. The top edge of the mirror should not be higher than the top edge of the bathroom door. It's also worth considering the size of the sink. These rules apply to both rectangular and round mirrors, regardless of size.

The parameters of a bathroom mirror should be matched to the dimensions of the bathroom, remembering that a reflecting surface can additionally influence the optical correction of the room size. If there's a chance to place a mirror opposite a window, the natural light reflecting in it will give the bathroom a unique character. In a small, windowless bathroom, it's worth installing backlit mirrors – using an LED lamp in the frame or placing appropriate lighting on both sides of the mirror.

Rectangular or round bathroom mirror?

In reality, dimensions are more important than shape for a bathroom mirror. A large mirror not only allows for better visibility but can also positively influence the perception of the bathroom's size. Both round and rectangular mirrors have their supporters, so it's best to choose the shape according to the bathroom style. In a modern bathroom, mirrors with shapes that deviate from classic styles work well. The market offers cabinets with mirrored fronts, and you can also find mirrors embedded in tiles, allowing them to fit in the space available in the room.

A lot depends on personal preferences and the size of the room. If you're looking for a way to enlarge the bathroom, it's hard to achieve that with a round mirror; rectangular ones work best here. A fantastic effect can be achieved by placing a mirror on an entire wall; one large mirror will make the room appear significantly larger than it actually is. Its frame is also important; a crystal mirror requires an appropriate frame, for example, specimens in gold with decorations work well in the glamour style.
