bathroom radiator with bottom connection

What types of connections do bathroom radiators have?

Radiators differ not only in terms of color or shape but also in terms of connection. We distinguish:

  • bathroom radiators with bottom connection - these are most commonly used in new buildings; water is supplied and drained through pipes mounted at the bottom of the radiator, usually on the right side, although left-sided radiators and those placed in the middle of the radiator are also available on the market,

  • bathroom radiators with side connection - water is supplied and drained using fittings placed on the side of the radiator (either on the right or left side); this method of installation is the least invasive as it uses the old connection, so there's no need to carve walls and introduce new pipes,

  • bathroom radiators with cross connection - water is supplied at the top and drained at the bottom on the opposite side of the radiator; this type of connection is primarily used for long radiators, ensuring an even temperature distribution over their entire surface.

How to connect a bathroom radiator with bottom supply?

The way a radiator is connected affects its proper operation, but also the convenience of cleaning and the aesthetics of the room. A bathroom radiator can be installed on the wall or set on special stands on the floor. Every radiator is connected to the central heating system by two pipes: the supply pipe, which brings hot water from the heat source, and the return pipe, carrying cooled water back to the system. For radiators with a bottom connection, both pipes are connected to fittings located in the radiator, at the bottom, either on the right or left edge.

Which side is the supply for the bathroom radiator?

The supply for a bathroom radiator with bottom connection can be in the center of the device or on its left or right side. The side of the connection, whether the supply is on the right or left, does not matter. A thermostatic valve is placed on the supply pipe, and a shut-off valve on the return pipe.

Radiator with bottom connection - what material can it be made of?

Bathroom radiators (both decorative and classic) are currently made mainly from 3 materials: steel, aluminum, and cast iron. The first two materials are most commonly used nowadays because they heat up quickly and conduct heat well. Cast iron radiators are chosen rather when the bathroom is arranged in a retro style.

What power options do radiators with bottom connections have? Bathroom radiators are divided into 3 main types:

  • Water - these are connected to central heating systems like regular radiators. Unfortunately, they do not operate outside the heating season.

  • Water-electric - are connected to central heating systems like water radiators. However, they have an additional electric heater, allowing them to be used all year round.

  • Electric - have low power, so they cannot heat a bathroom on their own. They are suitable for small rooms and for supplementing heating in interiors where another type of heating is installed. The installation of an electric radiator is very simple, as you just need to plug it into an outlet. This is an excellent solution, especially in months when central heating is not yet operational.

Which radiator to choose for the bathroom?

Currently, bathroom radiators offer a very wide range of products. They can be matched in terms of connection type, although their appearance is most often considered. There are models available in various colors and forms. In terms of colors, the white bathroom radiator remains the most popular, as it suits almost all bathrooms. Black radiators are also increasingly chosen, which can be matched with interiors in an industrial or minimalist style. Chrome has been a very fashionable color for several seasons - such finished radiators fit perfectly into an elegant glamour style and can be matched with the color scheme of fixtures. However, that's not all radiator manufacturers offer.

Regarding the shape of radiators, ladder-style bathroom radiators, which consist of horizontal tubes connected by collectors, work very well in bathrooms. They are extremely convenient because they replace towel racks. An alternative to this type is the panel radiator, which is somewhat less handy as it cannot hang towels or small clothing items to dry.

A very designer choice is opting for a decorative bathroom radiator. These models can take various shapes: from rounded tubes to honeycombs or geometric, avant-garde forms. Such a wide availability of various radiators allows them to fit perfectly into the bathroom decor.
