Outdoor tiles in bathroom and terrace

Glazed Porcelain Terrace Tiles – Technology That Works in Practice

All Mexen outdoor tiles are made from glazed porcelain. This ceramic material is fired at high temperatures, making it exceptionally hard and resistant to absorption. Thanks to this, terrace tiles do not absorb water, which is very important in autumn and winter – even during frost, they don't crack or warp. The glaze layer serves two functions: it protects the surface from dirt and stains and gives it an aesthetic look – from a delicate matt, like in the case of Dublin Bianco to the elegant shine that the ceramic tiles Simba Black are known for.

Anyone who has ever dealt with natural materials – granite, marble, or travertine – knows they require impregnation and special care. This is not necessary for glazed porcelain. Even mud or rain deposits can be removed with plain water and a mop. Moreover, Mexen terrace tiles are resistant to UV radiation, so they do not fade and lose color under the sun's influence. As a result, outdoor spaces will look just as good years later as they did on the day of installation.

Safety and Durability – Natural Materials vs. Porcelain

Outside, situations where the safety of household members may be at risk are common. Wet stairs, terraces covered with a thin layer of ice, or balconies after rain are potential slipping hazards. With natural stones, such as marble, the problem is even greater because their polished surface can be exceptionally slippery, thus they won't work outdoors. Large outdoor tiles for balconies and terraces from Mexen have an advantage here. Which outdoor tiles will perform best? First of all, models finished in matte, GT matte, and carving, which have an R9 anti-slip class, meaning they provide good grip in standard conditions.

Mechanical durability is equally important. Natural stone, although impressive, is easy to scratch and requires regular impregnation to maintain an aesthetic look. Glazed porcelain needs no additional protection, and its PEI 4 wear class means it can withstand high traffic without losing color and gloss. A terrace with Mexen tiles can easily withstand moving garden furniture, cycling, or children's play. Ceramic tiles are also impact-resistant – they won't crack under the weight of pots or furniture, which would be a real risk with marble or travertine. Therefore, porcelain becomes a more practical and durable choice for outdoor spaces than even the most beautiful stone.

Balcony Tiles in Different Variants – Inspiring and Timeless

Although technical parameters are the most important, the appearance also matters when choosing outdoor tiles. Mexen offers a wide range of patterns and colors, allowing the tiles to be matched with the building's facade and surroundings. Light shades, such as Boca Dove, will brighten the terrace and give it a lightness, while darker models, like the already mentioned Simba Black or the slightly milder Sintra Verde – will introduce an elegant contrast to a light facade. An interesting option is balcony tiles inspired by wood, like Neo Travertino Crema, which warm up the space and pair beautifully with garden greenery.

All decorative outdoor tiles from Mexen are 120x60 cm in size and rectified. This means that the edges are perfectly straight and the coverings can be laid with a minimal joint. This makes the entire surface look uniform without visual chaos. Additionally, terrace tiles are characterized by V2 tonal variation, which gives a natural effect of subtle differences between individual tiles – similar to stone. Such details make the surface not monotonous while maintaining a cohesive character.
